Hey, I’m Michael Varrone Jr.  I’m from Long Island, New York, and currently am a rising junior at Emory University.  My major is biology, and I plan to go into research.  I’m interested in the field of genetics.  Besides biology, my interests include skiing (although there isn’t much of that in Georgia), video games, and hockey.  Before working with Dr. Bayona, I learned DNA sequencing techniques at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and how to operate DNA purification machines at Autogen.  My reason for joining Dr. Bayona’s research is, of course, the focus on genetics!  I’m excited to be involved in genetic research, and my current project is centered around the genetic diversity of whalebones from museum samples.
