Bayona Vásquez Lab
Conservation & Environmental Genomics
Hi, I'm Samme Xie, a rising junior at Emory from Chongqing, China. Inspired by my mom, who works at a cancer hospital, I developed my passion for biology during middle school as I got abundant opportunities to visit labs and ask bizarre questions. During high school, I worked in a bioengineering lab to manipulate genes in microbes with CRISPR and other cool tools. This unique experience establishes my interest in bioengineering and genetics, where I can dive into the magical microscopic world. In the future, I want to head towards research and explore more of these fascinating fields.

At Dr. Bayona's research group I spend my time processing samples and learning data analysis of the population genomics of the bonnethead shark, Sphyrna tiburo.
